Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the event is to make it clear that historical theory is an essential part of historical science. One is inconceivable without the other. Historical science without a connection to the real world seems pointless, which is why every theory of history is necessarily a cultural theory. At the center of historical science is the historically thinking and working person. Methodologically, this goal is achieved through intensive inclusion of the questions raised and positions represented by the students.

Assessment and permitted materials

Online exam (open book) with a maximum of 6000 characters (including spaces, font size 12pt, normal line spacing). Candidates must register for the exam online in order to be able to take part in the exam via a corresponding link. Only properly registered students have the right to take part in the examination and, if they upload their examination performance in a timely manner, the right to an assessment of their performance.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

An essay of a maximum of 6000 characters. In this, you are expected to answer a question or comment on a thesis that the students themselves have developed during the block dates.

Examination topics

All material relevant to the exam is available online as an open book/Moodle from the course until the end of the exam period. Relevant to the exam are: content of the lecture (see lecture stream and slides), literature, teaching videos and, if necessary, teaching paths on Moodle. EVERYTHING THAT IS ON MOODLE IS RELEVANT TO THE EXAMINATION = EVERYTHING THAT IS RELEVANT TO THE EXAMINATION IS ON MOODLE. The length of the videos/streams is several hours and the length of the literature (depending on the editing perspective chosen) is several hundred pages. The students make a selection from the material posted online on their own responsibility with regard to the chosen processing perspective during the online examination. In order to successfully complete the course, a positive graded exam is required.

Reading list

All literature relevant to the exam is made available on Moodle. It is recommended to get started:
Martin Tschiggerl/Thomas Walach/Stefan Zahlmann: Theory of history. Wiesebaden: Springer 2019
Stefan Jordan: Theories and methods of historical science. Paderborn 2016.
