Aims, contents and method of the course

Die Einrichtung der österreichischen Militärgrenze und der Werdegang der Uskoken/Vlachen/Granicari (von Flüchtlingen zu Grenzverteidigern) stehen im Vordergrund dieser Lehrveranstaltung. Ziel der LV ist es mit Quellen und Methoden zur südosteuropäischen Geschichte herauszufinden, welche Faktoren die Integration der überwiegend orthodoxen Christen aus dem Osmanischen Reich auf habsburgischem Gebiet behinderten und wie sie ihren Alltag als Militärkolonisten im sog. Niemandsland bewältigten.

Assessment and permitted materials

Beurteilung: Mitarbeit, Diskussionsbereitschaft, unkonventionelles Denken, Freude am Lesen und Interpretieren frühneuzeitlicher Quellen sowie zwei kleine schriftliche Arbeiten.
