Aims, contents and method of the course

This class is designed for beginners (=first year students) of Global History.

Assessment and permitted materials

Weekly assignments and participation in class room discussion (60%), final essay (40%)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Basic knowledge and orientation about the working skills of Global History
Basic ability to think in the categories and connectivity of development in Global History
Basic ability to handle questions, theories and narratives of Global History
Ability to deal critically with political and socio-economic questions, in particular those of religions and ideologies
Ability to search and judge information in a professional way

Examination topics

Readings, discussions, smaller research exercises, oral presentation, essay
