Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course gives a problem-orientated survey over the period from around 400 to 1200 AD and the development of Europe in this time and tries to consider the most fundamental social, cultural and political aspects of the medieaval world.

Assessment and permitted materials

2-3 papers of 3-5 pages must be written for the discussion of sources during the term and a final written exam of 90 minutes will be hold and the end of term based on the course and additional literature. Students needing an exam for the old basic course in teacher formation have to prepare the time between 400 and 1500 AD.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Basic knowledge of European history from Late Antiquity to the High Middle Ages and first instances of reading medieval sources

Examination topics

Lecture with some examles of medieval sources, which must be prepared individually and which will be discussed together
