Aims, contents and method of the course

- Introduction into the basic principles of state, government and law
- survey of historical "milestones" of political thought and ideas (e.g. Platon, Cicero, Magna Charta, Hobbes, Montesquieu, Declaration of Human Rights,...)
- principles of Austrian constitutional law
- International political systems
- 1-2 study trips (e.g. Austrian Parliament, Viennese Criminal Court, Vienna International Centre,..)
- conflict management

Assessment and permitted materials

active participation, elaboration of presentations, short test

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Based on a survey of historical milestones of political thought the participants get a broad, but intense introduction into the political and constitutional framework of Austria and the European Union. Drawing on examples of selected international political systems we work out different democratic paradigms.
