Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Since 1500 reform and revolution have contributed to an immense change of European and American societies which was and is evaluated in different ways by historians. Using different examples (German territories, Netherlands, Great Britain, France, Prussia ) the seminar discusses different approaches and aspects of the topic .

Assessment and permitted materials

-Intense selfstudy of the literature
-Active participation in the seminar discussions
-Compilation of a bibliography and writing of an annotation
-Presentation and discussion of one specific topic during the seminar
-Writing a scientific paper (Bachelorarbeit) according to the requirements of the curriculum (inclusive an abstract)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The interaction between reform and revolution and the dialectic between change and continuity in Modern History will be discussed and the knowledge about main theoretical and methodological questions will be deepened.

Examination topics

Every participant is expected to do an intense study and reading of literature in preparation of the seminar, the presentation of one specific topic during the seminar and in order to write the scientific final paper. The ability to work out bibliographies, to write abstracts and annotations/book reviews will be exercised.
