Die Vorlesung, die in englischer Sprache gehalten wird, bietet einen Überblick über die politische und soziale Geschichte Irlands von der Frühgeschichte bis zum EU-Beitritt der Republik Irlands (1973).

5) The Tudor and Stuart Reconquest, 1500-1660
6) Jacobite, Williamite and Georgian Ireland, 1660-1800
7) From Mass Politics to the Great Irish Diaspora, 1800-1850
8) Modernisation: Culture, Society and politics, 1850-1916
9) The Easter Rising and the War of Independence, 1916-21
10) First Steps on the Path of Independent Statehood: Southern Ireland, 1922-39
11) What is Irish Neutrality? The Testing Ground of World War 2
12) Post-War Stagnation and Economic Upsurge: The Republic of Ireland, 1949-73
13) The Northern Ireland "Troubles"
Prüfungsmodus: schriftlich. Gute Englischkenntnisse sind erforderlich, da die empfohlene Literatur großteils in dieser Sprache verfasst ist. Die Prüfungssprachen sind Deutsch oder Englisch. Die Vorlesung ist eine Initiative des Dubliner Kulturministeriums (www.sports-tourism.gov.ie/culture)
