Aims, contents and method of the course


The Graduate College Global History serves students writing their Master's thesis according to the Master Curriculum "Globalgeschichte" or according to the Erasmus Mundus Master-Program "Global Studies". Attendance for second year students is obligatory, recommended for first year students. The Graduate College will support students in conceptualizing, planning, and writing their Master's thesis (choice of topic, theoretical approaches, methods, structure, search for and critique of literature and sources). It will also offer the opportunity for students to present preliminary results, to discuss these results, and to exchange information.
Didactics: Seminar style, students will be involved in planning and organization.
Requirements: Regular attendance, active participation, punctual fulfilment of all assignments.

March 10: Space and Time: How to embed your Master Thesis in a framework of space and time
Reading: Immanuel Wallerstein, Time-Space-Realities, in: Unthinking Social Science (Copy at WISO). Please prepare by a close reading of the article and write a short comment which you bring with you to class or send it beforehand by e-mail.

April 7: Linear chronology versus synchronity of the non-synchronous?
Reading: will be provided in March

April 21: Presentation of master thesis topics drawing, posters and organograms
Planning of master thesis proof reading
