Aims, contents and method of the course

AIMS:
The traditional condition of our objects of history of art and architecture is crucially influenced by actions taken in the interest of the preservation of monuments and historic buildings over time. This lecture intends to give an insight into the cultural continuity as well as into the time-dependent, historical variations of purposes concerning monumental preservation.
TOPICS:
Works of art and monuments of art.
History of conservation - positions towards history.
Traces of history - conservation of history.
Restorationists and antirestaurationists.
Values of monuments.
Ensembles and cultural landscapes.
Time layers - decisions about history.
Monuments and modern architecture.
Protection by law, by international charters and by public relations.
Methods and terms.
METHOD:
By means of different problems and goals of monumental preservation, a broad consideration is being made in terms of the principles and results concerning actions taken in the interest of monumental preservation in the course of history as well as today.
