Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Founded in 1990, the institution, which recently received the official museum seal of approval from ICOM and the Austrian Museum Association - a white temple façade in a red circle - has realized many projects since its inception that have left the museum roof and other exhibition institutions behind.
Most of the works realized by the MIP with the artists take place on paper, in the public space of the newspaper or magazine page. Others take place in urban space, on billboards, large screens or in the opera (on the 'Iron Curtain').
For the seminar I am putting together a selection of projects that make this spectrum of works in 'public space' visible. The works will be presented by individual participants as preparation for the seminar paper (of the usual c. 40.000 signs). Due to the fortnightly rhythm and the various holiday breaks, the exchange (e.g. on drafts of exposés) is planned via Moodle. There will thus be writing and communication work outside the seminar session during the semester.
In terms of content, the seminar focuses on the one hand on the examination of a transformed concept of the art work - as a result of the conceptual art of the 1960s - and on the other hand offers the opportunity to get to know important artists of the last three decades better. The MIP archive still holds many documents on the projects that can be used for the seminar papers.
The seminar will focus in particular on the development of precise work analyses that do justice to the generally unfamiliar work forms.
The seminar will focus in particular on the development of precise work analyses that do justice to the rather unfamiliar types of art works. In addition to reading theoretical texts, the exchange on the selected works in the seminar and via moodle will contribute to this.

Again: Submission of the final seminar paper by 31.7. (no exceptions).
