Aims, contents and method of the course

In this case study forms of light and light phenomena in Ottonian Book Illumination will be examined (presentations, discussions).

After completion of the course students should be able to
- understand and use the basics of scientific work
- do scientific analyses of medieval works of the Ottonian Manuscript Illumination
- realize contents, name and describe them and understand the developments of forms in Ottonian Book Illumination
- present the outcomes of the research in a presentation (+ handout)
- involve scientific literature on the subject
- make a scientifically founded seminar paper about the topic

Assessment and permitted materials

mandatory attendance of the course and the tutorium, active participation, assignments, 20 minute presentation, handout, written paper (number of characters: 15000-20000)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

For a successful completion of the course all appropriate tasks (mandatory attendance, active participation, assignments, 20 minute presentation, handout, written paper) must be performed and a positive assessment must be achieved
