Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

For medieval paintings, place and time of origin or persons involved are rarely documented, and it is a basic task of art historical research to place these works in a historical context. The methods available for localization, dating and attribution are to be trained.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation in discussions, one oral presentation (20 min), an art historical paper meeting common scholarly standards (8.000-10.000 characters without space), and a handout (not more than 1.000 characters without space + figures).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance is mandatory for the course and the accompanying tutorial. In case of absence due to illness or exceptional family situation, written proof must be submitted.
All parts of the course must be completed: Participation in all sessions and tutorial units; oral presentation, art historical paper, handout (for details see above).
Assessment standard: participation in the course: 10 %; presentation: 30 %; written assignment 60 %.

13th century painting with a focus on the investigated work of art; specialist terminology; mastery of the techniques of scientific work; independently written scientific text
