080050 VO Kazimir Malevich (2017S)

Kazimir Malevich is one of the founding figures of European Modernism. The lecture will discuss his work in the context of the Russian Avant-garde of the 10s and 20s of the last century. Malevich's theoretical framing and contextualization of his Suprematism will play an important role. A central aim will be the integration of Malevich's figurative late work into an understanding of his oeuvre. Malevich's relations to some contemporary strands of the Russian Avant-garde, mainly constructivism and productivism, as well as to the socio-economic situation before and after the Russian Revolution will be central for this.
