Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Already since the 19th century, but increasingly since the 1960s, the mobility of the autonomous, tendentially commodified artwork has been countered by various forms of attachment to a specific site. The lecture illuminates the history and transformation of these site-specific artistic practices on the basis of theoretical texts and individual case studies that trace the development of the paradigm from references to the genre of the monument to architectural interventions to performative and ephemeral interventions. The focus will be on the critical potential of site-specific art and the changes in the understanding of sites and the attachment to sites since the 1970s - i.e. in the context of an increasing (economic, cultural, technological, and ecological) 'globalization'.
