Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

GOALS: Deepening knowledge of Bavarian and Austrian monuments through field work, perfecting the skills of describing and analysing art works (belonging to several categories, such as architecture, sculpture, painting, arts and crafts etc.), enhancing the capacity to critically review theories about the very monuments outlined in publications and posted in the Internet by examinating the original monuments.
CONTENT: Monuments, including their decor from the Medieval Period to the Present Time.
METHODS: Description and analyses of the monuments, Iconography, Iconology, analyses of style, building research, contextualisation of the art works in their original historical and sociological surrounding etc.

Assessment and permitted materials

(1) Assembling basic information about two monuments (for example: construction history), and presenting it as a short paper before the study trip; (2) active, constructive participation in the discussion at the excursion site; (3) composition and uploading of one Wikipedia entry by June 31, 2017.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

excellent knowledge of architecture terminology, competence in the description of art works of all categories; see form of performance evaluation.
