Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The lecture is part one of a sequence of four lectures (three of them will follow in the forthcoming terms). It presents a survey of occidental art from the beginning of Christianity to the end of the High Medieval period. It is focused on the regions where the most important and influential developments took part. Of special interest are resumptions of earlier developments and developments of long duration as the contemporaneity of divergent movements. As far as methodology is concerned there will be a board approach: Beside the analysis of style iconography and iconology will play a major part, further the crucial political context and church policy (including the dogmatic development) will be taken into account. The lecture is supported by a Power Point Presentation and e-Learning (structure of the lecture, terminological glossary, PPT-Slides, pool of images, Self-test)
