Aims, contents and method of the course

Beginning with an historical survey of the life and reign of emperor Frederick II. of Hohenstaufen his ideology of government and his personal form of representation will be discussed in relation to his building program and architectural monuments. In the second part of the lectures life and reign of king Louis IX. of France will be presented with special attention on his personal motivation on christian sacral architecture analyzing the monuments of his period

Assessment and permitted materials

Evaluation by means of written test in front of slides. First date for the test on 20.1.2015, Seminarraum 1, Institut für Kunstgeschichte, University Campus, Garnisongasse 13 / IX

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The lectures intend to make conceiveable the consequences of the particular government's ideology of two very different monarchs in 13th century Europe on their building program and architectural style.

Examination topics

The lectures will be given as powerpoint-presentations. Text and slides will be published during the semestre at the platform "moodles"

Reading list

A list of bibliography will be distributed at the first session of the lectures and consequently will be presented at the platform "moodles"
