Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Beginning with an historical survey of northern Africa from antiquity to the late Middle Ages the architectural development in the kingdoms of Nubia, Meroe, Axum and Ethiopia will be discussed in detail and brought in relation to the architecture of the Mediterranean and of Southern Arabia in Late Antiquity, early christian and byzantine times. The influences of the mediterranean world will be outlined as well as the particular formulations of this area.

Assessment and permitted materials

Evaluation by means of written test in front of slides. The use of a script basing on the material of the Moodle-comunications will be consented.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Die written test shall prove a general konwledge of the discussed material. Depending on the quality of the answers the valuation will be calibrated.

Examination topics

The lectures will be given as powerpoint-presentations. Text and slides will be published during the semestre at the platform "Moodle"

Reading list

A list of bibliography will be distributed at the first session of the lectures and consequently will be published at the platform "Moodle"
