    Aims, contents and method of the course

    Many students are completely unaware of it: The extensive photo and slide collection of the Department of Art History. The aim of this course is to develop strategies for making this collection better known and more accessible. The course participants will write concise catalogue articles on outstanding objects in the collection for a new website. These exemplary in-depth explorations are intended to provide a broader public with an initial insight into the collection. At the same time, the aim is to demonstrate the potential of the institute's collections for research, teaching and exhibitions.

    The specific teaching content includes:
    - The technical basics of analogue photography and historical projection methods
    - The historical significance of photo collections for art history teaching and research
    - Research into provenance and collection history
    - The processing and communication of specialist knowledge by writing catalogue texts

    Assessment and permitted materials

    The basis for grading is:
    - Active participation, participation in discussion
    - Independent research
    - Presentation of the research results in a short paper
    - Catalogue text for online collection presentation

    Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

    Assessment criteria:
    - Active participation (25% of the grade)
    - Short presentation (25% of the grade)
    - Catalogue text (50% of the grade)
