Aims, contents and method of the course

Die Ehrung einer Person durch ein Denkmal ist - die Grabmalplastik ausgenommen - mit Bezug auf antike Gepflogenheiten eine Errungenschaft der Renaissance und findet ihren Höhepunkt in der Denkmalflut des 19. Jahrhunderts. Das frühneuzeitliche Personendenkmal verbirgt sich häufig hinter einer mythologischen Verkleidung, die wichtige inhaltliche Aussagen für die Selbstdarstellung bzw panegyrische Huldigung durch den Auftraggeber enthält. Im Seminar soll an Fallbeispielen mythologisch verkleideter und reiner Personen Denkmäler deren formale und inhaltliche Gestaltung analysiert werden.
