Aims, contents and method of the course

Diese Fallstudie wird sich mit der Stellung der Frau in der byzantinischen Gesellschaft anhand des Aktionsraumes „Stiftung“ auseinandersetzen. Ob durch die Stiftung von Klöstern, Gärten, Mosaiken oder Handschriften, byzantinische Frauen fanden Möglichkeiten politische, wirtschaftliche oder gesellschaftliche Handlungsoptionen innerhalb eines patriarchalischen Systems umzusetzen. In der Fallstudie werden verschiedene Arten der Stiftungen von Frauen sowie deren mögliche Motivationen behandelt. Dabei werden wir fragen, ob es eine typisch „weibliche“ Form der Stiftung in Byzanz gegeben hat, inwiefern dies als Rückschluss auf individuelle Positionen der einzelnen Frauenfiguren gelesen werden kann oder inwieweit sozial vorgeformte Geschlechterrollen hierbei berücksichtigt werden sollten. Insgesamt werden vor allem bedeutende Stifterinnenpersönlichkeiten – Kaiserinnen, Adelige oder Heilige – im Vordergrund stehen.

Das Ziel der Fallstudie ist es den Teilnehmenden einen alternativen Überblick über das ca. 1000-jährige Bestehen des byzantinischen Reiches aus der Perspektive byzantinischer Stifterinnen zu vermitteln. Dabei sollen die Grundlagen wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens, die genaue Betrachtung sowie Analyse von Objekten, die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der Primär- und Sekundärliteratur und das Verfassen wissenschaftlicher Texte geübt werden.

Formale Beschreibung, Analyse und Interpretation von Objekten, gemeinsame Textlektüre, Referatsbeiträge
