Aims, contents and method of the course

Regular attendance required. Speech and written work.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
It will be our goal to not only understand the contemporary art of South Africa but also understand how Apartheid influenced the art scene of the country. We will therefore look at many different artists in detail. We will not only talk about the art scene but individual artists. Colonialism, Apartheid and the end of the Apartheid regime will be central themes. The art of South Africa will be looked at in an international context
Examination topics
There will be a general introduction to Apartheid. There will be in class discussions and topics will be discussed. Together

All Books are in English and will be available in the library. Including: Art at the End of Apartheid, Visual Century: South African Art in Context (vol 1-4), Revisions: Expanding the Narrative of South African Art, 10 Years 100 Artists: Art in a Deomcratic South Africa
