Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim is to develop iconographic analyses using the example of depictions of the days of creation. Relevant medieval texts are to be consulted and comparisons made with other works of art on the same subject.
In the introductory session there will be an introduction to the topic and tasks will be assigned. Based on a work of painting, book illumination or sculpture, the participants are asked to prepare a ten-minute presentation in which they analyse the procedure for visualising the days of creation. The papers are to be presented in the next two sessions. In addition, a one- or two-page handout is to be prepared containing sources, comparative examples and literature references.
Another homework is the compilation of information for five cards each for the specialised vocabulary trainer currently in progress: These ‘cards’ include a suitable picture, a selection of correct and incorrect vocables, a detailed picture title and, if necessary, a short explanatory commentary. In the last session, the cards for the specialised vocabulary trainer are tested. More detailed information on this will be provided in the introductory session.
