Aims, contents and method of the course

Contributions to picture theory by art historians, focussing on E. H. Gombrich and those who built on is ideas or critized them.

Assessment and permitted materials

Discussions, oral presentations, papers.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course aims at fostering the students' competences in reading theoretical texts, analysing works of art and developing art historical arguments. Each participant prepares an oral presentation on a chosen topic and (hopefully) writes a well researched and argued paper of about 15 pages (including footnotes).
