Continuous assessment of course work

Most of the literature to prepare the excursion is in English language. During the excursion guided tours by colleagues and discussions with colleagues will be in English language.
Good knowledge of English language (active and passive) is essential.

For various reasons the excursion takes place in the second half of September (app. 16.th to 28th.th/29th. of September 2017). The exact route will be coordinated in close contact with colleagues in Britain and announced during the first meeting of the preparation course (LV-Nr.: 090038; March, 3rd. 2017). At the same time the costs of the excursion will announced.
For organisational and financial reasons a binding commitment of participation in the excursion is compulsory until March, 10th. 2017.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aim of the excursion is the understanding the function and historical development of the Northern frontiers of the Roman Empire (Hadrian´s Wall and Antonine Wall) as well as their fore- and hinterland. During the excursion we will meet colleagues who will show us individual sites and inform us about recent research and discussion.
Among the aspects to be discussed are: Relation between (military) Infrastructure and Landscape; Organisation of the military Infrastructure; Identities and material Culture; Archaeological Heritage Management; Imparting individual Sites and the overall military Infrastructure to the Public; Limes as World Heritage Site.
