Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Hagiography is an important part of the literary production of Byzantium. Authors across all periods describe in different literary modes the life, conduct and miracles of holy men and holy women. Scholars have studied hagiography under many different aspects: as a source for social history and daily life; as an indicator of different levels of style; as an illustration of religious sentiment.
