Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Pottery is the most common category of archaeological finds in all historical periods.
In this course we will learn the basics of documenting, analysing and publishing ancient ceramics.
This includes drawing (analogue and digital), descriptive recording and identification with the help of specialist literature. Special units are devoted to the archaeometric-technological examination and professional photography of artefacts. In addition, the informative and scientific value of ceramics for archaeological research will be discussed during the lectures.
The aim is to introduce participants to ceramic research.
Ceramic artefacts (sherds, whole vessels) from the IKA's collections will serve as teaching examples, with a focus on ceramics from the 2nd and 1st millennium BC.
