Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Students will be expected to submit a short essay (3-5 pages) with a similar original exercise of their own on a passage that attracts them.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The lectures will be delivered in English, but students are welcome to ask questions in and write their essays and exams in German, French, or Italian. The course might also be of interest to students of Comparative Literature.
Examination topics
Depending on COVID, students will either take a written translation exam or an oral translation exam drawn from the readings covered in the lectures.

This lecture course will be devoted to a variety of encounters with different personalities within different landscapes, both real and imaginary. I plan to emphasize close readings of different passages from different genres, both verse and prose, both famous and lesser-known, from Classical, Late Latin, and Medieval Latin Literature.
