Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture course aims to be an introduction to the fields of ancient architectural research (archäologische Bauforschung) and architectural restoration practice. It is designed to instruct students to gain an understanding and a critical appreciation of the various issues and principles concerning the study and conservation of ancient buildings, and ultimately to help students to develop an awareness of the interdisciplinary nature of working with architectural remains in an archaeological setting. Emphasis will be placed on the practical approaches, procedures, and methods in dealing with architectural monuments in fieldwork.

Assessment and permitted materials

The final grade of the course will be based on a written examination (in German) at the end of the semester.
