Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, we will explore writing styles and themes of so-called Greek migrant literature or migration literature. The first step is to question the blurred and controversial terminology of this literature in its historical contexts. The representatives are just as diverse and heterogeneous as their languages. We analyze the texts of Greeks of the diaspora, writers who emigrated from Greece, writers of the second generation of migrants and immigrant writers.
The selected texts have been published in Greek, German, English and Swedish. The students contribute to the research of these texts through close readings, text discussions and comparisons in the context of presentations and small written papers. They deepen the knowledge of Greek acquired in the language courses. The aim of the course is to familiarize students with this most recent chapter of Greek literature and to give them an understanding of the theoretical positions of so-called migration literature.

Assessment and permitted materials

Prüfungsimmanente Lehrveranstaltung: regelmäßige vorbereitete Lektüre, schriftlich vorgelegte Übersetzung, aktive Teilnahme und Diskussion.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Sprachvoraussetzung: Erfolgreiche Absolvierung von Neugriechisch III oder Mittelalterliches Griechisch aus dem Bachelor Byzantinistik und Neogräzistik. Teilnahme auch bei Anfängerkenntnissen möglich.
