Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Excursion (including preparation) to the cultural and historical cities of Ravenna, Bologna and Rimini (Italy), with special attention to the Early Christian/Byzantine monuments and the relations between Byzantium and the Ostrogoths in Late Antiquity.
Objectives: explore the sphere of influence and the impact of Byzantine and Ostrogothic culture in Late Antiquity.
Method: In-depth student work to develop analytic and critical understanding the architectural, artistic legacy, topography, and material culture especially when visiting archaeological excavations, churches, and museums.

Assessment and permitted materials

Handout (25%), participation (25%), presentation during the excursion (50%).
