Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this course a concise picture of Ephesus in Roman times in the context of other urban centers will be conveyed. The aim is to present urban phenomena in a fundamental way and to discuss them in a comprehensive way. The course will be taught through presentations and discussions.
Assessment and permitted materials
One-hour presentations, active participation in discussions, literature review and overview of the state of research. PP presentations and submission of literature lists to colleagues are desired. Presentations can also be given in English.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Oral presentation, written seminar paper (10-15 pages); attendance and active participation in the discussion.
Examination topics
Competency of an oral scholarly presentation, including defense of one's hypotheses and conclusions within the context of the presentation; knowledge of the topography of Roman Ephesus; terminology of Ephesian buildings. Basic knowledge of scientific work (structure of a scientific paper, citation style, underpinning with images and maps)

The bibliography will be discussed in the first seminar session.
