Aims, contents and method of the course
"Ein Brief hat einen Schreiber, aber keinen Autor". Im Gegensatz zu dem bekannten Diktum Foucaults wurde für die Briefe Ciceros die fonction auteur nicht erst in der posthumen Rezeption wirksam. Bereits ihr "Schreiber" musste unter den herrschenden Bedingungen von Öffentlichkeit und Veröffentlichung Autorschaft und -verantwortung übernehmen. Erst die neuere Forschung trägt dem Rechnung, nachdem die Briefe lange fast ausschließlich als historisch-biographische Quelle ausgewertet wurden und zu den am wenigsten gelesenen (und als kunstmäßige Texte gewürdigten) Texten gehören.

Examination topics
Im Seminar sollen anhand ausgewählter Beispiele Aspekte der "Literarizität" im weitesten Sinn, d.h. Selbstdarstellung, Adressatenbezogenheit ..., besprochen werden. Dabei soll auch ein Blick auf die frühneuzeitliche Rezeption fallen, in der sich eben diese Aspekte als fruchtbar erwiesen.
