Aims, contents and method of the course

Die Vorlesung behandelt die Geschichte der byzantinischen Literatur von der Zeit der "Makedonischen Renaissance", als nach den sog. "Dunklen Jahrhunderten" (7./8. Jh.) die säkulare Literaturproduktion wieder auflebte, bis zum Ende des byzantinischen Reichs, das durch den Fall von Konstantinopel im Jahr 1453 markiert ist.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Die Teilnehmer sollen einen Überblick über die wichtigsten Tendenzen und Entwicklungen der mittel- und spätbyzantinischen Literatur erhalten und in den Umgang mit dieser Literatur eingeführt werden.

Examination topics

Vortrag über Hintergründe und Voraussetzungen der jeweils behandelten Thematik (Periode, Gattung, Autor); gemeinsame Lektüre und Diskussion ausgewählter Texte (in Übersetzung).
