Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course is continuous assessment and will provide an introduction to Late Latin through selected readings from important types of texts of the late 1st through 6th C.
Assessment and permitted materials
The nature of the assessment will depend on final enrollment, but will include translation in class, a midterm examination and a final examination for sure. Other evaluations: to be announced.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students should learn something about what distinguishes Late Latin from Classical Latin. Vulgar Latin will feature too. They should get practice reading and translating. A by-product will be a deeper understanding of the culture of the period, for the texts will be contextualized.
Examination topics
Translation. Parsing. Grammatical short-answer questions. Students will be expected to be prepared for each class and to bring a large sign with their names to facilitate calling on them. Active learning will be emphasized, and some sight translation will be expected.
Reading list
To be supplied as a Course-Packet to be purchased from Frau Pfaffenbichler. Also in Moodle.
