The following issues will be addressed: history and periodicization; language and literature; handbooks, lexical and other research tools; manuscript studies; historical geography, sigillography, epigraphy; archaeology and art history; economic and social history; military history, history of medicine; history of law; Byzantium and the world.
Each topic will be approached from three angles: What is the basic knowledge that students should acquire on a specific theme? How did the Byzantines themselves conceptualize this issue? How has this issue been approached in the history of scholarship.
