Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aim of the course is to give an introduction to the methodology and to the practice of the editorial work on this difficult documentation. The participants are expected to prepare the edition of unpublished Vienna papyri from the VIIth century A.D. (mainly administrative letters). The results are intended to be published in a CPR-volume or in articles. Moreover, the students will get a first insight into the documentation of this period and into the historiographical problems posed by the transition under Islamic rule of a part of the Christian late antique world.
Good knowledge of Greek is required, ability to use academic literature in the papyrological languages (English, French, German and Italian) strongly recommended.
First meeting is 11th March 2010
