Aims, contents and method of the course

DIGITAL SYNCHRONOUS COURSE:
All forms of verbal interaction as well as the physical presence will be relocated on Zoom for the duration of Home-Learning.

- Terminological issues, Currents and trends in Linguistics.
- How do I read an linguistic text?
- Phonetics and Phonology (I. Linear Phonology)
- Phonetik und Phonologie (II. Generative Phonology and phonological processes)
- From Word formation to Morphology
- Traditional Syntax versus Generative Syntax
- The Verb in the German Sentence
- Word Semantics
- Sentence Semantics
- Pragmatcs
- Text linguistics

Assessment and permitted materials

1. Homework assignments (compulsory, minimal requirement) tba during the semester.
2. Online Mid-term examination on Zoom (compulsory, minimal requirement)
3. Online Final examination on Zoom (compulsory, minimal requirement)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

1. Your mandatory attendance (max. 3 leaves of absence)
2. Acquiring basic theoretical and practical knowledge in Linguistics, with a special focus on German Linguistics.
3. You are expected to deliver your homework on a regular basis and to observe the deadlines. This is a minimal requirement.
4. Attending both the mid-term and the final exam. Both attendancies are minimal requirements.

QUANTIFICATION OF YOUR OUTPUT
- Delivering your homeworks is a prerequisite to attend the mid-term and the final examination
- Mid-term examination 40%, final examination 60%

Hence please do take your attendance, your homework and your mid-term exam as seriously as you take your final examination.
