Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course provides an introduction to scientific practice. Our subject matter is morphology, i.e. that level of grammatical representation (and its theory) which forms complex words from minimal form-meaning pairs. We use morphology to address general questions relating to theoretical linguistics as an empirical science and, more specifically, as a cognitive science, however, we also employ it to discuss more practical issues. Students are supposed to acquire the skills needed for actual scientific work by applying the contents of this course, the main focus being on a (short) paper they will be asked to write, dealing with morphological properties of their respective native language(s).
