Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
The evaluation of your output in this course takes place as an immanent examination and is based on several examination procedures, resp. partial outputs, i.e.:1. Your presence, due to the fact that this course is classified as a "Übung" (max. permitted absence: 2)
2. Delivering every week one written text (1-2 pages)
3. Delivering a critical analysis of one newspaper article or one free essay (2-3 pages)
4. Capital Text (4-5 pages)
5. Delivering one filmed public speech (max. 5 min)
6. Critical analysis of your own public speech and your speaker's profile (1-2 pages)
7. Test in Rhetorics, Poetics and Genre Theory
8. Book Review (2-3 pages)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The objectives of this course are:1. Optimising your written competence in German (producing texts).
You can self-rate this optimisation by evaluating at the end of the semester whether and if you are able to produce a formally impecable text - either under time pressure or free.2. Optimising your oral competence (rhetorics).
You can self-rate this optimisation by evaluating at the end of the semester whether and if you are able to produce and utter a formally impecable public speech on a topic ad libitum.3. Acquiring basic practical knowledge on rhetorics, poetics and literary genres.
