Aims, contents and method of the course

aims and contents:
basics in narratology, space studies, sound studies
perception in literature
aesthetics of sensory perception
spacial and temporal structures of narratives
interdisciplinary research
aspects of cultural studies (acoustic turn)

methods:
every session: required reading leads to debates (plenum)
regular verbal and written (max. two) tasks
one group presentation
final paper

Assessment and permitted materials

active participation
verbal and written tasks
one group presentation
one final paper (15 pages main text)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

positive evaluation in all the parts named above

Examination topics

primary aim of the final paper: narratological analysis of one novel (selection offered by the lecturer) with focus on auditive (space-)phenomena
students can choose between two or three novels (discussed during the semester) for their analysis
possibility to choose from five theoretical aspects
