Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Introduction into auditive phonetic transcription, pracitce of phonetic transcription in class will enable students to acquire the skills of phonetic transcription. Introduction into empirical data collection. Students will perform recordings of a dialect / a language variety on their own. They will analyse the data collected.

Assessment and permitted materials

Elaboration of a phonetic transcription.
Presentation of the recordings in the field: Recording, presentation of the dialect / language variety, data analysis, discussion of the results.
Written paper.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Ability to discriminate phonetic distinctions, ability to perform a phonetic transcription of a continuous speech. Knowledge about the dialects / language varieties presented in class. Ability to perform literature research.
