In this introductory course, the basics of philological work (rules of citation, bibliography, research of literature, textanalysis) are mediated through the study of short prose by Musil, Kafka, Walser, Horváth, Benjamin, Joseph Roth, Veza Canetti, Elisabeth Langgässer, Marieluise Fleißer etc. Overmore, there will be procured an insight into the working with medieval and modern texteditions. The genre of the short prose will be explored theoretically as well as practically, overmore other genres (novel, drama, lyric) are explicated. Therefore, the newest narratological concepts and methods of cultural studies will be presented. A review of the methods of literary criticism will be offered, which should inspire to further and profound lecture of theoretical literature.

Aims, contents and method of the course
In this introductory course, the basics of philological work (rules of citation, bibliography, research of literature, textanalysis) are mediated through the study of short prose by Musil, Kafka, Walser, Horváth, Benjamin, Joseph Roth, Veza Canetti, Elisabeth Langgässer, Marieluise Fleißer etc. Overmore, there will be procured an insight into the working with medieval and modern texteditions. The genre of the short prose will be explored theoretically as well as practically, overmore other genres (novel, drama, lyric) are explicated. Therefore, the newest narratological concepts and methods of cultural studies will be presented. A review of the methods of literary criticism will be offered, which should inspire to further and profound lecture of theoretical literature.
Assessment and permitted materials
The achievement control will be effected through a final exam as well as through the composition of bibliography and a short paper.
