Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course is designed to give students a critical insight into working with language(s) and data about language(s). After successful completion, students will have a basic knowledge of approaches to language observation and methods of data collection, they will be able to take critical positions on grammar, dictionaries and textbooks, and they will be able to verify data about language(s) and deal critically with entrenched postulates. Furthermore, they will be able to deal with the most important data sources for the acquisition and teaching of German.
In the course, the most important corpora and corpus instruments for DaM/DaF/DaZ and for contrastive language research will be presented.
The content will be taught through different social forms. Frontal: presentation of individual corpus managers and the work with them; group work: solution of smaller linguistic problems; presentations (online) / stations (in the seminar room): presentation of research results on selected linguistic problem points, smaller tasks and exercises; discussion groups.
