This lecture offers an overview of the field of German as a Foreign and Second language. Specifically, language diagnostics and Durchgängige Sprachbildung will be explored.
On the first meeting relevant terminology is discussed. What does German as a Foreign/Second/First/Native ... language, multilingualism and so on mean? Which connotations are entailed in these terms? Subsequently, academic language and language diagnostics are reviewed.
On the second meeting students will present various language diagnostic procedures and Tulpenbeet is presented by the lecturer.
The third meeting is dedicated to common second language acquisition hypotheses and myths. Furthermore basics and methods of Durchgängige Sprachbildung are discussed.
On the fourth meeting legal foundations are focused upon. Moreover, the students will participate in a "method exhibition".
The topics of the last meeting are multilingualism as well as othering, Rassismuskritik and Neolinguizismus.

Assessment and permitted materials
The assessment is achieved with various methods. The students will hold presentations on language diagnostic procedures and participate in "method exhibition" Furthermore a short test regarding legal foundations (open book) needs to be completed. A short paper needs to be written which summarizes the contents of the lecture and applies them to a case study.
