Welche Aufbauprinzipien liegen verschiedenen deutschsprachigen Corpora zugrunde? Was sind sinnvolle linguistische Fragen an das Corpus? Was sind parallele Textcorpora, wie werden sie erstellt und benutzt?

With digitisation of texts it is possible to create new and distinctive formats for critical and scholarly editions, raising questions such as the creation of the canon, editorial theory, and the notion of textual authority.

Course taught in German and English.

Assessment and permitted materials

A single piece of written work for either Dobrovol'skij or Miller.

Dobrovol'skij: practical work with the Mannheim Corpus on a selected linguistic topic.
Miller: an essay on a topic to do with digital editions/archives.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

How do you compile German-language corpora? Which principles are involved? What kind of linguistic questions can be answered? What are parallel text corpora? How are they created and used?

Examination topics

Weekly lectures, software demonstrations, discussion of selected www sites.
