Aims, contents and method of the course

Society and nature in Latin America
Is development confronted with nature conservation?, Development, for whom?
Are we really living through a man-made climate change?
These and other questions will be addressed in the course dealing with environmental issues at the regional level.
The working method includes lectures, group discussions and the presentation of the results obtained by the participants.

Assessment and permitted materials

Continuous assessment.
writing two written papers (20+70 points), and oral presentation (10 points)
The long and last paper, must be at least:
45,000 characters (with spaces) as a seminar paper.
90,000 characters (with spaces) as a Bachelor's thesis.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Completion of the StEOP and the VO of the module Landeswissenschaft.
Distribution of the final grade:
90-100=1 / 81-89=2 / 71-80=3 / 60-70=4 / 0-59=5
Lack of Spanish grammar will not be taken into account in the mark, as long as they do not hinder the understanding of the text.
Writting papers: In order to ensure good scientific practice, the course organizers can invite students to a note-relevant discussion after handing in the term paper, which has to be completed positively.
End writting paper = There will be a maximum delivery date that is mandatory to respect.

-Land use change. Deforestation vs. agriculture, livestock, mining
-Water. Basic commodity vs. industrial use
-The social aspect and the Economic development
-Environmental ethics. Sustainable development
