Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The operatic output of G. Verdi and R. Wagner accompanied the processes of national unification in both Italy and Germany. Both composers contributed to the creation of national mythologies and even became national symbols. During this course we will analyze and critically review the contributions of both artists towards the respective national myths. We will also try to answer the question whether such a message was planned by the composers, or whether it was a later political instrumentalisation.
