Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The latin term genus helps to detect the entanglement between gender and genre. The different relationship between these two important paradigms of literary analysis will be investigated with reference to two geographically and historically distant texts: "Pedro Páramo" (1955) of the mexican author Juan Rulfo and "Novelas amorosas y ejemplares" (1637) of the female Spanish novellist María de Zayas. Students will learn to adopt feminist and postcolonial literary theory to tackle the relationship between genre and gender.
