Aims, contents and method of the course

The course aims at providing students with a lit.crit. toolkit, enabling its participants to understand and apply the basic concepts of literary criticism.

This lecture course will
- provide an introduction to some basic issues of literary studies, such as text analysis, interpretation and literary theory;
- make students familiar with the terminology and practice of literary criticism;
- provide a survey of the major literary genres and the special methodological challenges relating to them.

Information will be provided through lectures (incl. ppp), material provided on moodle, Q&A-sessions, online self-tests.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written final exam (on site, multiple-choice format, 40 questions, 60 min; sample questions provided on moodle; Hilfsmittel/use of study aids not permitted)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Familiarity with the theoretical and methodological concepts and issues covered in class and with the set readings; ability to apply the theoretical knowledge aquired in the course of the semester to the readings
